Meanwhile, Sucre meets with Susan, who is sending an Email to an "Edward Guthrie," claiming to be "Gary Miller" – it's in code, referring to sales going through the roof. Sucre tells Susan Linc isn't plotting anything. She says she believes him, and gives him a cashier's check for $25,000.

He's being used. Mahone doesn't care; bottom line – Whistler works for the Company. Whistler lets Michael see his book, trying to win back some measure of trust. It includes the words "Gate" and "Stampede," which Whistler claims just refer to a netting company and the name of his buddy's boat.

Linc buys a bomb on the black market and tells Sofia that it's backup; hopefully he won't have to use it. He wraps the bomb in a brown paper bag, gives it to Sucre, and tells him to call Susan and tell her he has info and she should pick him up – he needs to get in her car.

Whistler and Mahone decide they need to go out and get supplies; Michael reluctantly joins them. They wait until they hear the coast is clear, propping the door open as they go. The Bellick/Sammy fight is beginning. Bellick gets in the first punch, but Sammy quickly gains the upper hand. Meanwhile, Sammy's thugs, including Cristobal and Cyrus, see Michael, Whistler and Mahone emerge from Lechero's room and give chase. They run back to the tunnel, but Whistler gets caught outside. Sammy is about to kill Bellick when Cyrus calls that they've found Michael. Sammy runs to Lechero's room and demands that Whistler give him the combination to the door. Whistler insists he doesn't know it. Sammy calls through the door that he'll kill Whistler if they don't open the door. Michael is held back by Mahone, but Michael says he needs Whistler.

Sucre meets with Susan in her car. Susan says she knows the fight he had with Linc the other day was staged. And the check she gave him had a tracking number, so she now knows Maricruz' name and address. And she'll decapitate her if Sucre doesn't bring her some real information. She throws him out of her car, but he did manage to plant the bomb under her seat.

Sammy accuses Lechero of hiding Michael, and marches him towards his old room. Meanwhile, Mahone has improvised a weapon from a piece of rebar. Sammy demands the combination from Lechero, but Michael says he's about to open the door, to Mahone's horror. Sammy pushes Lechero and Whistler in and forces Michael and Mahone, at gunpoint, to drop their weapons. In desperation, Michael offers to bring Sammy in on the escape plan. Sammy begins to ascend the tunnel – and the makeshift construction collapses in an avalanche of sand, burying and killing Sammy within seconds. As Sammy's men reel in shock, Mahone and Lechero make short work of them. Michael stands stock still, stunned by all the around him. Lechero tosses the corpses of Sammy's men into the yard, followed by Sammy's body. Point made. Lechero is back in charge. Bellick tells T-Bag he's in, or he'll tell everyone about the escape attempt.

Michael meets Linc at visitation, and Linc tells him about the "Gary Miller" passport. The date of birth matches a Gary Miller in Scottsdale, Arizona – the same city Whistler told Sofia his mother retired to. If Whistler's not a fisherman, what is he?

Michael tells his escape cohorts they have 24 hours to re-dig the tunnel – and it took three days the first time. He still has no idea how they're getting around the guards. The others are not happy. Later, T-Bag tells the others that last time they broke out, Michael screwed them all over. As the escape tunnel is dug, Bellick offers to work security for Lechero on the outside. Suddenly, water is dripping into the tunnel. It's raining – and a sinkhole is beginning to form. The ground won't hold until tomorrow. The only choice is to leave now, tonight.

Lincoln and Sofia, a romance possibly brewing, drive up to the Sona visitation fence, where Michael asks Linc to help figure out how to get around the guards, and confesses his discomfort with helping break out men who genuinely belong behind bars, and with turning Whistler over.

On the terrace, McGrady confronts Michael about being left behind. Michael says he's doing him a favor.

Michael forms a plan that includes cutting the power; the hitch is the backup generator. He calls Linc and tells him about the change in plans, and asks him to get a hold of Sucre – who is currently in a meeting with Susan. Sucre tries to lie to her, but she sees right through him – and she's found the bomb he left in her car. She threatens Maricruz and Sucre's unborn child, and Sucre caves, telling her that Michael's having second thoughts about handing Whistler over. Linc calls Susan to tell her the escape's been moved up to tonight. Once Susan dismisses Sucre, she consults with an agent, who has been watching Sofia's apartment. He can't get a good eyeline to watch her, which makes Susan suspicious. Sofia is trying to open the mysterious silver case of Whistler's. She gives up, and hides it under her bed before she leaves.

As the escape team works to create a way to cover the hole after they leave, Bellick suggests to Mahone that they team up and nab the others after the escape, to bring them home to face charges. Mahone tells him he should go his own way after the escape; the only thing a partner will get him is caught.

Whistler agonizes over his decision. Michael knows that LJ is dead if he hands the information over.

And if Whistler gives them what they want, maybe she won't have to kill Linc.

Sucre surreptitiously sabotages the jeeps, but he is confronted by his boss Rafael in the parking lot, who pulls a gun on him. It seems that his assumed identity, Jorge Rivera, has a warrant out for his arrest.

At visitation, Whistler and Michael face Susan, Linc and Sofia. A sorrowful Whistler says that everything that's happened to everyone – including Michael and Linc – is because he took the charter job for the Company. She agrees – but she wants the information by a deadline, or LJ and Sofia are dead. She pushes a stopwatch through the fence – and then grabs Sofia and leaves.

The others can't believe the time is so short; T-Bag and Lechero take this surprise revelation as confirmation that they can't trust Michael.

Time to escape. Lechero and T-Bag object to McGrady coming along. And then T-Bag puts a knife to Whistler's throat – either T-Bag, Lechero and Bellick go up first, or Whistler's dead. Michael is forced to agree. Mahone decides to stay at the back – he's learned not to turn his back on Michael.

The lights pop back on after just fifteen seconds; this was all part of Michael's plan.

As they're about to re-enter the tunnel via Lechero's room, Michael leads Whistler and McGrady out to No Man's Land and then freedom – though they're soon pursued by Sojo and a group of soliders.

Whistler suddenly discovers that he's lost the bird book.
Too bad.
Time to go.
They dive just in time, as the soldiers reach the beach.

At Sona, Bellick, Lechero and T-Bag are beaten severely by Menjavar, as the guards try to get Michael's location out of them.

The escapees swim to a weather buoy, but Sucre's not there with the boat – because he's still handcuffed in the General's office in Sona.
The prison is locked down and he's not going anywhere until this is over.
They're stranded in open water in the middle of the ocean.

It turns out the tracking device is in the stopwatch Susan gave Whistler; they throw it overboard, then hole up in the shack Linc had previously rented, which is reinforced.

Susan arrives at the shack to find nobody there – there's just a recording playing within of gunshots being fired.
The escapees are miles away in Linc's car, where Whistler is again begging them not to just turn him over or they're all dead; Michael and Linc won't listen.

Sucre denies everything, but the General soon finds out his true identity as one of the Fox River Eight.

Whistler runs for it – the injured ankle was never anything more than a ruse.
He steals a truck and takes off, leaving Linc and Michael in his dust.
No Whistler to exchange, and Susan's coming.

Sucre is badly beaten, but won't give up information about Michael and the others.

Meanwhile, Bellick finds that without Lechero and Sammy, Sona has descended into anarchy.
T-Bag insists on helping Lechero, even though it's now a liability to be seen with him.
They find other prisoners looting Lechero's room; they mock him and call him Norman.
Lechero finds Sammy's gun and orders them out.
T-Bag tells Lechero that the rules have changed now that there's a new general; there's a guard who will let them buy their way out of Sona.
It'll cost $50,000, and T-Bag knows somebody who can get them the money.

She's impressed – nobody's ever escaped from Sona.
She tells Michael he should work for the Company.
Linc's got a gun to Whistler, but there's a Company sniper on a nearby rooftop ready to take Linc out the second the exchange goes down.
However, Michael says this isn't the exchange point – this is just confirmation that everybody's alive.
She'll get the next meeting place in five minutes.
Next up is the Museum of Antiquities, where Michael picks up a replica arrowhead from the gift shop.
Susan arrives to find there are metal detectors at the museum's entrance.
She has to leave her gun with the Company agents before she goes in.
The agents are left posted outside as she enters with LJ and Sofia.
LJ begins to laugh at the thought that Susan thinks she can outsmart his uncle Michael.
Susan tells Michael she'll snap LJ's neck if she doesn't walk out with Whistler.
As she hangs up, Michael sneaks the arrowhead into Whistler's pocket, telling him that nobody's going to get hurt.

Whistler tries to stop her asking questions, but Susan, tired of Whistler trying to keep Sofia innocent, tells her there are no coordinates.
There's a tense moment – and then Sofia walks to Linc.
Susan tells Michael he'd best get a move on, but Michael knows there must be agents posted at every exit – and deliberately trips the museum alarm, locking the room down.
He'll leave – with her in tow.
Everyone in the museum is herded towards the front door, and searched by police as they leave.
Sofia gets separated from Linc as Whistler grabs her wrist, swearing he can explain.
At the door, the police find the arrowhead in Whistler's pocket, though they're embarrassed when Susan points out it's plastic.
However, the cop recognizes Whistler as an escaped criminal.
Susan, with no other option, signals an agent to come help.
Shots ring out; in the pandemonium, Susan gets away with Whistler – and Sofia is shot.

As Sofia is taken into the hospital, she whispers something to LJ.  LJ gives Michael Sara's origami rose – he found it in the house where he and Sara had been held.  LJ tells Linc that Sofia said there's something under her bed at her apartment regarding Whistler.  Linc says he's not interested; he wants this to be over.  But it's too late – Michael has overheard.

Whistler meets Mahone at the bar.  Mahone hasn't been eyeing the bank after all, but the clock; this meeting was planned.  Whistler pays Mahone's tab.  Mahone asks for his money, but Whistler points at Susan waiting outside and says she handles the cash.  Mahone's been hired by the Company for $300,000.

At Sofia's apartment, Michael and Linc find the mysterious case under the bed; Michael opens it with a crowbar.  It contains a dossier on a man named Jonathan Lief, from Scottsdale, Arizona.  Michael's going to investigate, and can't be talked out of it.  This is about getting back at those responsible for killing Sara.  The brothers hug and bid each other farewell.  He drives off over the horizon, the origami rose lying on the passenger seat, next to his gun.
